What is the point of all of this?
Students will have the opportunity to explore the study of genetics to be prepared not only for tests but to be ready to discuss the study of genetics with their peers and future colleagues. A basic knowledge of genetics combined with assignments that allow for visual and audio based learning culminating in a critical thinking project will give students an understanding of people with genetic mutations as well as a stance on the issues related to genetic engineering. All of the information that we know about genetics today can be traced back to the Father of Genetics- Gregor Mendel!
Students will Be able to:
Students will Be able to:
- -Understand alleles and segregation through the use of Punnet Squares
- - Determine certain chromosomal disorders based on karyotpes and knowledge of mutation.
- -Take a stance on genetic engineering (one of science's most controversial topics).
