You are the way that you are because of heredity! You have a combined set of traits from your mother and your father. You look the way that you do because of your genes (small codes of protein in your DNA). In this curriculum you will have a chance to learn about the basics behind genetics, the mutations that may occur in genetics and take a stance on a controversial issue. Gregor Mendel - The Father of Genetics
One of the most essential areas in the science biology started with a contribution from the works of this man. Meet Gregor Mendel, he is known as the father of Genetics. His article , entitled "Experiments on Plant Hybrids" (1866) included qualitative data from his experiments with pea plants and their characteristics from generation to generation. Like the foundations of many principles in science, Mendel's ideas were not given much attention at first but today his Laws in genetics are considered a significant contribution to science!
